The ears are one of the most difficult parts to reconstruct for a surgeon due to their unique composition and 3D structure with extremely fine details. For this reason, ear reconstruction surgery should be performed by a plastic surgeon who has a special talent and is dedicated to this job, in addition to having knowledge and experience in this field.
Although many surgeons in the world claim to have performed ear reconstruction, there are very few surgeons who have achieved results that are considered successful or, in other words, can make an ear that looks like a normal ear. There are only a handful of specialists in the world who stand out in this field with their excellent results. Instead of getting despondent looking at these unsuccessful results, please do your best to find the right doctor for your child. First, do your research and find the most experienced surgeons.
Second, tell the surgeons you are interviewing with that you want to see the results of their previous surgeries, talk to other patients' families, and make your decision afterward.
Ask to see their preoperative and postoperative photographs. If a surgeon tells you that they cannot show you any photos of their work, then their work is most likely substandard. Be very cautious! You should do more than just look at the photos, you should study them carefully. If there is no experienced and reliable surgeon with demonstrable good results in ear reconstruction where you live, or if your opportunities are limited, my advice to you is to wait.
